A dos días del comienzo del repechaje al Grupo Mundial de Copa Davis, Fernando González se mostró cauto frente al favoritismo que recae en la escuadra nacional sobre Australia.

"Creo que sentirse ganador de antemano es el error mas grande que uno puede cometer. Los partidos empiezan cero a cero, somos favoritos, asumimos ese rol, pero caer en el exitismo no es bueno. Respetamos muchísimo a Australia, pero sabemos que para ganar tenemos que esforzarnos al máximo", comentó el número uno de Chile.

A su vez, el triple medallista olímpico manifestó su respeto hacia Robert Smeets, quien disputa el puesto de segundo singlista con Peter Lukzac  en el equipo oceánico y nunca ha enfrentado a González.

"Es incómodo jugar con alguien que uno no conoce. A Lukzac lo conozco, jugué con él, pero a Smeets  no lo conozco y uno empieza a averiguar", dijo.
